WLIJ
has been on the air serving over 30 counties in middle Tennessee and
northern Alabama since 1959. It came on the air with country music
format consisting of old, new, and folk-bluegrass music with an
occasional classic rock-and-roll song. Sunday mornings are all gospel.
We continue that format today.
In additional to a great music line-up, WLIJ carries many local programs
and events. You will hear monthly 30-minute programs by the Bedford
County government, Bedford County Sheriff's Department, Shelbyville
Parks and Recreation Department, Better Business Bureau and Bedford
County Emergency Management Agency. There are three 15-minute Swap-n-Shop programs a day during the week and two on Saturdays.
Obituaries are announced four times a day Monday through Friday and twice
on Saturday and Sunday. There are daily giveaways as well as seasonal
specials. WLIJ broadcasts Shelbyville Central High School sports. Other
programs of local interest are aired as events happen throughout the
community.
WLIJ broadcasts several musical programs including the J. Gregory
Jamboree live from the Bell Buckle Cafe' and the Old Time Country Radio
Show with Paul Jones live from Lynchburg, Tennessee.
In addition to a top-of-the-hour-national news broadcast, the bottom of
each hour features a current local weather forecast and a calendar of
community events. We carry political events such as Meet the Candidates
and Election Returns. All programming is subject to interruption by the
National Weather Service for severe weather alerts or any local or
national happening of immediate importance.
WLIJ 1580 AM is a 5000-watt clear channel radio station.
